Face Lift

Face Lift

What Is Face Lift?

When you get older, gravity negatively affects your skin. Sagging, loss of elasticity, and wrinkles begin to appear on your face. Facelift, also known as rhytidectomy, is a surgical procedure performed to reduce the most visible signs of aging by removing excess fat, tightening muscles and redraping of the skin of your face and neck.

A facelift is generally combined with other procedures such as eyelid lift and forehead lift. If you have a strong bone structure and still have some skin elasticity while having facial sagging, you can be a candidate.

Face Lift Techniques

Different approaches tailored to your specific needs

Mini Facelift

Less invasive approach for mild sagging and early signs of aging

Traditional Facelift

Comprehensive solution for moderate to significant facial aging

S-Lift

S-shaped incision technique for targeted lower face rejuvenation

Who Is A Good Candidate?

Face lift may be right for you if you have signs of facial aging but still have good skin elasticity

  • Sagging skin on face and neck
  • Deep creases below the lower eyelids
  • Deep creases along the nose extending to corner of mouth
  • Jowls and loss of muscle tone in lower face
  • Loose skin and excess fat in neck
  • In good overall health
  • Non-smoker or willing to quit

The Procedure

Understanding what to expect during face lift surgery

Anesthesia

General anesthesia or local anesthesia with sedation is administered for your comfort during the surgical procedure. Your surgeon will decide the best option for your specific case.

Surgery

After incisions are made, the skin is detached from the underlying tissues and muscles. Your surgeon will reposition the deeper facial tissues, remove excess fat, and eliminate jowls. The excess skin is removed and the remaining skin is redraped over the newly repositioned facial tissues.

Incisions

Incision patterns vary depending on the extent of lift necessary. Traditional facelift incisions begin at the temples, continue around the ears, and end in the lower scalp. Incisions are carefully placed to be concealed within the hairline and natural contours of the face and ear.

Recovery & Results

What to expect after your face lift surgery

First Week

Your face will be covered with bandages. You may have drainage tubes which will be removed within a few days. Some pain, swelling and bruising is normal. Stitches are typically removed after one week.

2-3 Weeks

Swelling and bruising will gradually disappear. Most patients can return to work and normal activities within 2 weeks. Continue to avoid strenuous activities and direct sun exposure.

4-6 Weeks

You can gradually resume exercise and strenuous activities. Scars will begin to fade and become less noticeable. Final results continue to develop over the following months.

Risks & Complications

As with any surgery, face lift carries some risks

  • Hematoma (blood collection under skin)
  • Infection
  • Poor wound healing
  • Changes in skin sensation
  • Facial nerve injury (temporary or permanent)
  • Scarring
  • Hair loss at incision sites
  • Skin discoloration and swelling
  • Asymmetry
  • Need for revision surgery

Frequently Asked Questions

A facelift surgery typically takes 2-4 hours, but the time may vary depending on the technique and if other procedures are combined with it.
While scarring is inevitable, incisions are strategically placed within the hairline and natural contours of the face and ears. Scars typically fade significantly over time.
Results are long-lasting, typically 5-10 years. While the natural aging process continues, you will maintain a more youthful appearance than if you had not had surgery.
You will not feel pain during surgery due to anesthesia. Post-operative discomfort is typically manageable with prescribed pain medication and usually subsides within the first week.
Most patients can return to work within 2-3 weeks, depending on the nature of their job and their healing progress. Strenuous activities should be avoided for 4-6 weeks.
